Visiting Surgeons

A visit to the Craniofacial Center Nepal in Janakpur offers an invaluable opportunity for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, as well as craniofacial surgeons, to engage with a high-volume clinical service dedicated to the management of cleft lip, cleft palate, and complex craniofacial conditions. The centre performs approximately 200 cleft surgeries each year in addition to a wide range of other reconstructive procedures. Operated by a UK-based charity, it delivers comprehensive cleft and craniofacial care to a catchment population of nearly 10 million people.

Located in Janakpur, the capital of Madhesh Province, the centre serves one of Nepal’s most deprived regions, where literacy remains low and many individuals continue to live with facial deformities and associated social stigma. Visiting surgeons gain insight into the challenges of providing advanced surgical care in a resource-limited setting while contributing to meaningful, life-changing work. There are also opportunities to participate in community outreach programs focused on education, early identification, counselling, and patient-family engagement—critical efforts aimed at reducing stigma, improving quality of life, and supporting patients throughout their treatment journey.
